Its racist to accuse an employee of theft, even when you have video evidence of him doing it.

All kidding aside, people, when you are going to force someone to quit or be fired, no matter what the past behaviour, do NOT give them a warning by inviting them to come into a meeting.

There's probably quite a bit more going on here that we don't know. Great amounts of mental instability or some other things going on in the guy's life outside of work is possible as well. As for him telling his mother about dealing with racists... perhaps he thought it was more comforting to tell her that he was doing some sort of righteous act before he plugs himself in for the long ride down to hell.

Union officials typically tend to talk people out of actually filing a complaint of this nature. Very telling the union boss was already in the room. Also telling is having shot the union president. Collusion between union and management is most likely.

Of course he shouldn't have stolen and he shouldn't have shot people. lol

The lesson will be learned - businesses will (and should) leave the theft charges to the police to properly deal with - rather use it as a negotiating tool for resignation. That would then also see the issuance of no-contact/distance order.

I would have called the police, and then fired the guy. The video would be kept as evidence incase the former employee files a wrongful dismissal action.

Its a purely business decision whether to have police involved in a case of employee theft. In some cases, its not worth the embarrassment to the company or the individual.

This is an extreme, isolated and tragic case, lets not go overboard on it. (I once had a stapler thrown at me when I fired someone, so if you get called into the office and all heavy objects are removed, its not good news.)

Ya. I didn't hear her say that the cops were on they way....but the rest seemed okay to me....not being an expert and all....

The 911 operator passes on the info via computer the moment she has it!
That is why it only took 45 minutes for the Police squat team to arrive, as they had 11 other Black Men shooting at Racist White men.
They actually arrived in 3 minutes, and headed right for the free, unprotected beer stash in the safe , refrigerator!
