is a campground a human right?

should "disabled" campgrounds be reserved solely for the disabled and if not booked sit there empty and unused?

One could say, well, those parking spots (reserved for the disabled) aren't being used so who is gonna know the difference if I park there for a wee bit?

not really the same thing at all in my opinion. There are ALWAYS options to a "normal" person for parking, even it if means parking down the street and walking. But there are not always options for camping.

How many disabled spaces are available? Most likely a very small percentage.

How many disabled people actually go camping? Probably an even smaller percentage.

Ok here is a suggestion....let us say for a peak time like the weekend or a long weekend.....since the logistics would be greater for a disabled person to go camping it could be safely assumed that of course they would be pre-booking a site specific to their needs. Now let's say there was a cutoff time for booking a site - say by the preceding Friday afternoon of a particular weekend.....then the space could be freed up for abled campers.

sounds like this instance was all about the season site passes though. Makes it a little difficult for "abled" bodied people to swallow a "draw" for first choice being given to a disabled person just because they are disabled.


I wonder how many people who enter the draws would quickly find a "disabled" friend or relative.

The other day at Safeway I saw a guy beating up a disabled person. After I intervened I asked the dude why he was beating up the disabled person. He said "I caught him using one of our parking spots".

We use provincial campgrounds every year.
We're trying to visit as many different ones as possible...however...
We don't even consider it if there's no "modern showers/washrooms", and if there's no option to get electric at our campsite.

When booking though...there's checkboxes for "disabled" and "pets" etc. Options we could request...with no special requirement for booking.

The province could quickly solve the "problem" by having a pop-up if someone checks "disabled" requiring the user to punch in some kind of permit # or parking ID # (like the tags have), and so ONLY people who have a registered disability can get that camping spot...UP TO...the week before...and then the sites are released to anyone.

It's a simple programming thing...and could actually be done to ALL provincial campgrounds without having to change anything at the campground itself.

I couldn't understand from the article though if the crybaby was saying she paid more or less than "normal" people for the site they did get. It SHOULD be the same as everyone else...no "special" rates.

I do agree with one of the commentors though...that it any change should ONLY apply to Federal or Provincial (ie. government funded) parks. Private parks can do whatever they want.

just means it's closer to the "services", and typically is flatter, with either a nice flat access, or a pull-through site for easier entry/setup.

from the provincial parks i've been in...MOST the sites they offer that have electricity/water are all pretty easily accessible. where the hills and harder areas come in would be tent-only / no-service site.
