Can't say I have ever even thought of buying one. New or used.
Quick search shows three locally, whether they sell new or not I don't know.

Damn. I just gave away my old but very good IBM Selectric. All it needed was a new tape.

National Typewriter did a huge business . They rented/leased IBM's to the commercial market.

no...they definitely still make them.
Panasonic, IBM, Brother, even some new Japanese & Chinese models available.
I don't know what we bought...I THINK it was a Panasonic...but I'd have to ask the boss.

I hear ya, in my field, I try and do the same with the O-Brother crap.
FWIW, we still have many dot-matrix printers in service...which replaced the typewriters before my time...well, the dot matrix printers are now starting to die off, and what do we replace them with? ........ NEW Dot matrix printers!
Yay! I figure we're set for another 25+ years (I know, they don't build them like they used to, but not to worry, we have spares!)

yeah...we still have dot matrix printers here too...accounting still uses boxes of the computer paper with perforated seams & holes down the sides.
Plus, I haven't found a laser or inkjet printer yet that can print through duplicate/triplicate pages.

Why print through duplicate/triplicate pages when you can just fire off 2 or 3 copies of the same form on the laser printer in seconds? Seems to me like some places just hate change.

Triplicate forms are often issued to service techs, requiring hand-written reports.

you can't print duplicate/triplicates for cheques and have the "carbon" copy for your records.
We print our cheques on carbonless duplicate paper, so when it gets signed one copy goes to the payee, the other in the file.

At my last employer all cheques went through the laser printer with a "stub" being printed at the same time that remained on file. Basically the same thing, especially since the cheques are returned once they have cleared. Why exactly does one need an exact duplicate of the signed copy then? Seems to me that as long as you have a record of the payment one way or another the job has been done.
Again, just my personal feeling but almost ALL of the jobs handled by typewriters and dot-matrix printer are obsolete.
