I donate platelets, so yeah, scheduling is....awesome! lol
Honestly, I've had this conversion with staff, why do they have such crappy hours? No one could give me a decent answer. They're always asking for donations, yet the hours are totally...uh, what's the word....somebody else help me here: _________
I go on the weekends...at least that way I don't have to worry about jerk bosses being pissed off that a donation took too long (as if I have ANY control over much of what goes on a Canadian Blood Services)
[end rant]
I feel better now....
Maybe a little bloodletting.... ahh...yeah, that's the stuff.

LOL!
They use a centrifuge - pump your blood out, spin the platelets out and then pump it back in. Takes 60-90 minutes.
Weirdest thing - I can say I know what a heroin addict feels like. When they run the first cycle, they pump plasma into you to keep your fluid level constant. The plasma is at room temperature, which is cooler than body temperature. So when that gets pumped back into you it feels like someone is pouring cold water over your arm, even though it's just one needle going into your vein. Strange.
