Sonny Rollins - June 23 - Jazz Winnipeg Festival Sonnyrollins
I saw Sonny the last time he was here, also for the Jazz Festival. He only played an hour, but I seemed to recall enjoying it a lot.

At 79, he's one of the great sax players in the jazz idiom and will draw a nice sized crowd, no doubt.

AL GREEN Tuesday, June 30 • 8pm Centennial Concert Hall
I have asked for tickets to this concert from the Jazz Festival. I enjoy his music and that genre.
I've also told the family that I would love to see Branford Marsalis. I love going to at least one big named performance at Jazz Winnipeg and then a couple of the lesser know/up&comers. Always a good festival to start off the summer festival season.

Well, Holly, both Al Green and Branford Marsalis played here last year. I believe you were looking at an old listing. Green was quite a character. During the day, I actually ran into his band at Wildwood Golf Course! Brandford was superb, with a totally amazing 19 year-old whiz kid drummer as a replacement for his usual stickman, Jeff Tain Watts. Green was not quite up my alley, but at least I satisfied my curiosity.

Holy Crap, guess I will have to change my wish list, thanks Triniman. I let them know that they still have last years schedule calendar on the site. That was what I was looking at to see what days I could go to and who was playing on those days. Damn got excited for nothing.

They always surprise me with great performers, so stay tuned, you may find something that you will like.
