I'm with Shaw for cable tv and Internet.

If you've switched from MTS to Shaw for telephone service, what are your thoughts on the service so far?

I switched from MTS to Shaw. It went flawlessly. I had no problems what-so-ever. I did hear from some that worried about would happen if ever the power failed. A legitimate concern me thinks. Get a small UPS and I'd say you'll see no difference.

It is disconcerting though... MTS is like a reliable old shoe. It always fits...

I have since abandoned landlines entirely. I use only my cell phone through a device called Dock-n-Talk. It takes my cell phone and "injects" into my land line phones allowing me to use all my house phones through my cell phone.

No regrets. Been several months now.

I have been tempted to switch all my services to Shaw. They are sending me some pretty great offers.

I'm that guy in Winnipeg who doesn't own a cell phone, but if I ever had one, I think that Dock-n-Talk Sounds pretty good.

I ran into a Shaw guy in FutureShop and he said that most likely, I would be saving about $10 a month on basic phone service if I switched. Plus, I would get free call display and 411 service and I would get to keep my current number.

So, if the power went off, I would lost Shaw telephone. I suppose I could live with that as the power doesn't go off that often.

there is a big difference though.. not only local power outages... but EMPs will be a bigger problem . An EMP will wipe out the entire shaw system ( and cell phones as well) We also cant forget the pending solar storms which will again wipe out shaw and cell.
any newer CB and Ham radios will be impacted too.

however the phone system will still somewhat work but in a very limited capacity like 5 calls per area?

The single biggest reason I went to Shaw was their block-a-caller capability. That was before the CRTC introduced opt-out telemarketing.

The Shaw feature worked wonderfully blocking many an obnoxious telemarketer. That feature is still desirable but largely unnecessary.

Oh, and Deank, Shaw also offers a free tin-foil hat with all new subscriptions...

Man, there's a new documentary made for people who think along those lines:

Collapse

FEB.12-14, 17-18 - WINNIPEG, CAN - CINEMATHEQUE

Yep, he actually recommends that people should get off of cell phones and move to land lines because companies will not be able to afford to maintain the cellular network equipment, resulting in service failing. Of course, he could be quite wrong.

I signed up on the first day for the no-call list and believe it or, but I've had no calls from telemarketers since.

I too have had no few calls.I still get the occasional charity (which is okay) and existing service providers (which is not). But that opt-out telemarketing service worked very well...
