In a minority government, isn't in the government's favour to appoint an opposition MP for voting purposes?

I dont understand why the conservatives would allow one of their own to run, what with such a tight parliment and all you would think they would want as many votes as possible. Keep the Liberal guy in for gosh sakes.

I think the idea is that Milliken would probably resign from politics(so it is rumored) if he isn't re-elected as speaker. That leaves his seat vacant and from what I gather, he didn't win his seat by a wide margin and the thinking is that a conservative might win it in a by-election.
