I saw a great documentary in which the authorities took the position the John's should be prosecuted and the girl's should be counseled as they are the one's who are in harm's way!
What do you think about that outrageous idea?
I would have to stop visiting that business on Selkirk Avenue, and quit cutting down Aikens? ( 1 street west of Main) to get to Kelekis' Now that would be a hardship!

I think that there is a lot of validity to the idea. I'm not sure what you're doing, but I have no trouble going to Gunn's without getting arrested.

prostitution. its a tricky issue if you support freedom for all (which i do). Freedom to sell your bodies in a consenting manner -- freedom to purchase the bodies in a consenting manner.

However, living in the westend, ive been propositioned a number of times. I must say, the experience is rather embarassing and annoying. i would rather NOT be propositioned. I think the solution is to have prostitutes wait to be approached for their services, rather than have them actively market their services.

something about being asked makes me feel dirty and ashamed -- like I'M doing something wrong just walking to my bus stop.

I believe in fundamental freedom and what 2 consenting adults do is no one else's business, however, many of the prostitutes are under age, as young as 13, and thats just wrong. Needless to say that drugs and gangs are involved. In many cases, these are children, and the "Johns" should be prosecuted as pedophiles. That would put a swift end to part of th eproblem.

You know, even if we regulated prostitution there would still be a huge problem as like FM says some of these prostitutes are too young to be out there, or are being forced to be out there.

So if we allowed prostitution following the right guidelines and punished the bejesus out of johns who used services that operated outside the guidelines, all that would do is drive the "illegal" ones even further underground.

we need legal and regulated brothels. all the gang related underage ones would be left on the street where they would be easier to pick up by the cops or whoever. then if they catch a john trying to buy services on the street, they can throw the book at them. anyone who goes to a regulated brothel, no problems. extra tax revenue

Ego expresses his "shame" over being propositioned. Some of us express our anger when it is assumed we are for sale simply because we are walking home. About twenty years ago I was walking home from the U Of W, briefcase in hand and dressed in business attire because I had been attending an evening communications seminar. The night was crispy, a good time to walk and think about what I had just been learning.

I came up to Logan and King, made my way up King to Higgins, then crossed Main to the east side and walked up to Euclid....it was on Euclid that the creep in the car with the child seat accosted me....he had been following me since Logan and King!!! When one does the amount of walking I do one develops a keen sense of observation for the just in case scenario.

He pulls the vehicle up in such a way as to get my attention, the window comes down and he asks me how much do I charge.....I screamed a string of obscenities at him and kicked his rear passenger window causing damage to it. I got his plate information as he sped away. When I got home I called a cop buddy who ran the plates for me. I phoned this man's wife and informed her that there was damage to the car window and that perhaps she should find out from him why.....she was not hostile on the phone to me and I suspected that this was not the first time that he had been out scouting for fun.

I felt sorry for her. I was angry at him, angry that he could be so selfish and assuming. For crying out loud how many hookers walk around in business attire carrying briefcases.....really. Or do most men believe that any woman out walking at night is fair game? After that incident I took the bus at night....it bothered me that I had to do that but I did not want another incident like that one.

War? I have always maintained the old saying, make love not war but prostitution is a double-edged sword. I do believe that there are those men out there who for whatever reason need that release or ego boost but how good is it when it is bought from someone they are picking up off of the street who is doing it for a crack fix. Is protection used or not? And what of the victims in this transaction - the women who are reduced to those circumstances and the spouses who maybe catch a disease later?

And then what of the rest of us who are not engaged in that profession who are just trying to walk home without fear of being accosted?

Why should there even be a war? If this was a regulated profession there would be no concerns at all!

Government regulated screwing....that would be an interesting department to work in.

Regulated prostitution in Nevada is far from perfect. All the drug users and HIV and AIDS and other STD infected hookers still ply their trade illegally in backroom and on the street.

So as you can see there are still concerns.

Pretty simple, costly perhaps, to have Police cars in their hang out areas? If the Police aren't there it is because knifings, and other gang related activity rank well ahead of prostitution!

Going over Ego's post the first thing i thought was a man being propositioned by hookers....it has happened to many men that I know (and there are more men participating on this forum than women).....going over the post again now I can see the flip side....I will never feel shame but always anger when some dickweasel pulls that crap on me....like I said before, pretty sick when some think that women are always for sale if they are out on certain streets.

I'm not 100% sure but I think we do have legalized prostitution in Winnipeg. What goes on at Executive Bath at the corner of Ellice & Burnell? I used to do my taxes at Warkentin Tax just across the street from this place and observed all the comings and goings. I bathe at home so I never checked it out for myself!
