The first period was far from boring. The game did end up rather boring. That is one reason I can't stand Detroit. I prefer an offensive game. But others prefer a defensive game.

Just saw that hit on Havlat.
With today's higher level of hockey, there's no more room for hits like that in the NHL.
Get rid of guys that don't know how to play clean hockey.

Havlat NEVER touched the puck. I believe the reason the game is so much improved is they got rid of all the clutching and grabbing and hooking and holding and interference. The rule is very clear: don't interfere with a players efforts to play the puck. Do so and you're penalized. Knock a guy out while doing so and you get a match penalty.

It was the right call.

But the game itself was interesting. There were two games really. The first period where Chicago made Detroit look ordinary. The second period where Detroit played with Chicago. And yeah, Chicago wins in OT...

Heck, I could have demolished dozens of players...
I prefer to play the puck and hit while doing so. It takes alot more skill to do that, while aiming at a player isn't at all sportsmanlike. Just like that hit on the Jets' Teemu Selanne, years back.
But no, the blood thirsty 'mericans wanna see guys get crushed, just like in the NFL. I know how and when to take or give a good solid check, and I NEVER went after a player for one or another reason.
They should suspend more players for hits like that one and for longer periods of time.
