I'm going to play my favorite Earth Day song, "Earth Day," by Devin Townsend, a Canadian. Epic greatness. The chorus is "Recycle!"

Eat your beets, recycle...recycle...
Don't eat your beets, recycle...recycle
The message is; 'THERE IS NO MESSAGE'
Babe, you better not ever think,
Staring into the drink...get out of my mind...
Cause I may not be the one to say,
is there no other way we could do this another day?
I saw God.
She said...'If you don't believe me,
guaranteed you'll never leave me'
On your way, and out of my time
But I didn't even know if it was true or
just a result of chemicals
Shut up and think of something more important to say...
'Sometimes I think that in every straight
there's a gay!' Something or nothing a whole
either way it's a way,
it's a way, it's a way, it's a way, it's a way
EARTH DAY, EARTH DAY, EARTH DAY, EARTH DAY
it's a way, it's a way, it's a way, it's a way
EARTH DAY, EARTH DAY, EARTH DAY, EARTH DAY
It's like your birthday, it's on Earth Day,
Like a child you're born again, little child you're bored again...

It's your worst fricking day, it's on Earth Day...
Little lies to cover up...please make your mind up
(Eat your beets, Recycle...recycle...)
(...Don't eat your beets, recycle...recycle)
Man Overboard (I'm so far away)
Man overboard (I'm so far...)
But frick it! ...I really don't care
frick! Listen to me! Just shut the frick up!
Peace, Love, Joy
Man overboard (I'm so far...)
Hate, hell, war
Hate, love, love, hate, love, hate...destruction!
So just shut your face and take a seat
Because after all, you're just talking meat...and music?
Well, it's just entertainment folks.
Sometimes I think that I really have something moreto say...
'Sometimes I think that in every straight
there's a gay!' ...forgive me for saying it
blows either way, it's a
way,
it's a way, it's a way, it's a way, it's a way...
It's your birthday, it's on Earth Day,
Like a child you're born again, little child you're cold again...
It's your worst fricking day, it's on Earth Day
Little child your time is up...please turn the heat up
You need your beets, you recycle...
...Don't eat your beets...recycle...
Man overboard...I'm so far away...

same old same old.
I poke a two by two hole a foot deep in the swamp mud I call my backyard.
I drink a little wine, strip naked, flop down and smack around on the face of mama earth.
we are one again.
have a smoke, finish the wine and throw my bottles and butts over the fence.

AgesAces, why don't you encourage people to keep those items like DVD players and NOT to recycle them yet. The items are probably still good to use.

What's the purpose of encouraging people to buy the latest gadget every 2 or 3 years, when in previous decades, let's say the 1970s and prior to that, people had the same phone for several years, their tv for several years.

I'm not going to say NO to "consumerism", but I don't condone having people throw away perfectly good electronics items, only to ship them to S.E. Asia so some 10 year old kid can take it apart.

That's the society we've evolved to... The biggest or newest or flashiest. Keeping up with the Jones.

I remember when most homes only had one phone, And one TV. And one car. And one parent working. I believe life was much more comfortable back then.

If people have working equipment...I would encourage them to donate it to a charity, like ValueVillage or Salvation Army.

I think the focus here (again, I posted here...but it's from an e-mail I received) is for non-working stuff. Things that could end up in a landfill, but that instead can be recycled or repaired.

I wouldn't worry about dog hair in the sink, but rather there is more worrysome about Barium in our air.

I am less concerned with the Barium in the air that I am with the Teflon in the entire environment.

I AM GOING TO MAKE SURE I BUY ONLY GREEN PRODUCTS!!
Eco-friendly labelling? It's a lot of 'greenwash'
Earth Day - How are you celebrating? 4adf2cbf456691297bbb7855797b
Environment Minister John Baird, left, and Health Minister Tony Clement hand out baby bottles that are free of bisphenol A to 5-month-old Georgia Symonds and other babies in Ottawa, April 18, 2008.

THE SIX SINS OF GREENWASHING
1. Hidden trade-offs: A product that's eco-friendly in some ways, but not others, such as paper from sustainable forests that's bleached by methods that release dioxin.
2. No proof: A claim that can't be substantiated by easily available information or reliable certification, such as toilet paper claiming a certain percentage of recycled content, but without evidence.
3. Vagueness: A claim so poorly defined its meaning will likely be misunderstood. "All natural" isn't always non-toxic, for instance.
4. Irrelevance: A claim that may be truthful but not helpful – CFC-free is a frequent claim, but CFCs are banned by law.
5. Fibbing: False claims, such as products claiming to be Energy Star-certified that are not.
6. Lesser of two evils: A claim true within a product's category, but not for the category overall, such as a "fuel-efficient SUV."

98% of product claims fail 'sin-free' test, marketing experts say "All-natural" shampoo. "Planet-friendly" glass cleaner. "BPA-free" baby bottles.
The labels on 98 per cent of those good-for-the-earth-and-your-body items you fill your shopping basket with are lying, a new study shows.
Of the more than 2,000 self-described environmentally friendly products in North America examined by the environmental marketing firm TerraChoice, only 25 were found to be indisputably "sin free." The rest were greenwashing, a term environmentalists coined to refer to misleading environmental ads or claims.

How about those bamboo utensils - they claim they are "green" because bamboo grows quickly - but all that bamboo has to get transported from Asia!?
