Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6am.

While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA ) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG).

He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA).

After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today.

After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) filled it with GAS(from Saudi Arabia) and continued his search for a good paying job.

At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day checking his Computer (Made In Malaysia), Joe decided to relax for a while.

He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered...

why he can't find a good paying job in CANADA.

Yikes! Wonder how much all that stuff would cost if it was made by "good payed" workers in Canada.... bet the workers wouldn't be able to afford the stuff they make!

Bet ya the manufacturer would not be able to sell many of them at a competitive and profitable price.

It is a 2 edged sword, trying to buy made locally stuff.
My 1990 Chrysler Van was $22,500, where todays model can be purchased for less) with a bigger , better injin, an extra drivers side automatic sliding door, back seats that fold under instead of having to be removed, heater and air conditioner, front and back.
That is because of the peices have been outsourced to whomever can make them the cheapest to the specifications!
My sofas, made in Winnipeg, are simply the best quality available, and people spend $2000 to $5000 and more, but in 20 years they still are in great shape. The $299 - $1000 ones are never ever comfortable, and would be replaced 10 times to keep them looking as good as mine, and they are never comfortable because they aren't built properly to start.

Funny the cost has not really dropped to reflect the drop in cost to make , I don't believe

Things could be cheaper as the cost to us has not dropped as much as it should . Most of the drop you see is the reduced tarriffs. not cost to produce.

You could be right , about the tariff thingy. I think that there may be a 10% tariff on the Chinese , but I am not sure . I will check with my broker. Made in USA and mexico have no duty at all because of our agreement with them.
I get offers all the time from China- $179 for a leather all over sofa! tables at $20, $28 - with quotes on how many they can stuff into a container. The next time I have some extra time I will get a freight quote and figure out a landed cost. $179 for a leather sofa is pretty expensive lol! as that is less than I pay for the labour making a sofa frame!
