I heard that the power surge that occurred when everybody turned their lights back on blew hundreds of transformers and killed thousands of people. Class Action suits have already been filed.

So THAT's why we had a one hour blackout during our hockey game... (Just an excuse, torrential rain knocked out a transformer and we lost 8-1...).
