100 - 200 feet per minute is what i say. the biggest problem with a fire moving this fast is you can not get behind it to fight it was it can actually mave back as the it went though the area so fast the first time that it didn't fully burn the path, so it can actually burn back though those areas.

yup. forest fire fighting is a real bitch...all you can ever really hope for is to use the fuel up before the fire can get to it.

yea thats why prescribed burning is good method of fire suppression. Burn a path a head of the fire and hope the wind doesn't change direction. it will just burn its self out. great in ideal conditions. but other wise its hit and miss really.

yeah as long as they control it properly... not much you can do though when the fires are sparking up spot fires 40km away like the aussie ones were doing.
heck we watched a fire jump a 2K stretch we threw in up north one time. everyone busting there asses for 24 hours straight... and it just skipped over us like we never did anything.

yea i have seen that before. it was an unreal expreince. I fought fires with the MNR of ontario for two summers. its something i will never forget, the sounds alone. it was crazy, it would go from sounding like screaming like jet engine to an eary quiet in seconds.
